LOCTITE® 232
LOCTITE® 232 is a brown, opaque, medium-strength, medium-viscosity anaerobic retaining compound. Specially designed for high-torque threaded assemblies and heavy press fits, it features a lubricating formulation that prevents seizing during assembly and ensures smooth disassembly even in highly stressed metal joints .
LOCTITE® 232 cures in the absence of air between tightly fitting metal surfaces, forming a robust bond that resists vibration and corrosion while easing disassembly. Its slow cure time offers extended working periods, and its lubricating properties reduce galling and thread pick-up. This makes it suitable for challenging applications such as heavy-duty press fits, highly torqued fasteners, wheels, gears, and motor shafts in industrial or automotive environments .
Specifications
Colour appears brown and opaque Viscosity is classed as medium at room temperature Specific gravity is approximately 1.02 Fixture time is slow to allow positioning under torque Achieves full cure within 24–72 hours depending on metal fit and environment Designed to maintain performance up to around +300 °F (~150 °C)
Primary Chemistry: Methacrylate ester
Features & Benefits
The lubricating resin helps assemblies that require high torque to install and easy separation during maintenance
The medium-strength formulation secures press fits while allowing future disassembly
Medium viscosity ensures easy application without running
Slow cure provides flexibility for precise alignment during complex assemblies
Opaque brown colour offers visual confirmation of coverage
Problems Solved
Prevents galling and seizure of metal surfaces during assembly and disassembly
Secures high-torque joints and heavy duty press fits
Reduces maintenance downtime thanks to reliable yet removable bonds
Eliminates the need for mechanical locking devices or pre-cut gaskets
Applications
Ideal for press fits, gear and wheel mounting, splines, shafts and other cylindrical joints subject to high torque
Works effectively on steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass
Suitable for maintenance, OEM assembly, and rebuild applications in automotive, industrial machinery and power generation equipment
Apply while surfaces are clean or lightly oiled and allow full cure before moving or loading parts
